The road to the ‘Golden Glow’
Founder Marieke Bussink started Muppet Meals out of personal necessity: quality food for her own dog, without vague ingredients or hidden animal suffering. It all started with her beagle Pepper, who struggled with persistent gut problems and itching. While searching for a solution, she noticed how opaque many labels in the industry are. “The dog food market is often confusing,” says Marieke Bussink. “Lots of owners want the best for their dog, but with so much tangled information out there, they don’t know what to look out for. We’ve already done that work. Our customers no longer have to decipher labels themselves; they can rely on a range that is fully plant-based and hypoallergenic. That’s our promise: complete peace of mind and gold in the bowl.”
From nickname to the ‘Muppet Panel’
The name Muppet is a tribute to beagle Tess, whose cheerful character earned her the nickname ‘Muppet’. Since then, this has grown into the official Muppet Panel: a diverse group of dogs that helps test and review new products. Alongside French bulldog Bo, galgo Diego plays a special role in this panel; Muppet Meals plans to set up dedicated projects around this vulnerable Spanish breed later this year.
A mission against animal suffering
Muppet Meals is 100% cruelty-free. Driven by the personal bond with beagles Tess and Pepper – a breed that, sadly, is still widely used in animal testing – the brand actively campaigns against animal testing in laboratories. “It’s painful that dogs are still being abused for tests,” Marieke explains. “With Muppet Meals, we’re showing that there’s another way. Every order is a direct step towards a kinder world for animals.”
